Reading:
Please read sections 1.1 and 1.2 of the Yates/Goodman text.
Quizzes 1.1 and 1.2 in the text are good to test your understanding.
I suggest that you solve all of the "quiz" problems as
you read the text.
Note that solutions to all of the quizzes are
available on the Student Companion Site for the textbook and posted
on Blackboard.
The problems in item 2 below are related to the material
in section 1.2.
For next week's classes, please finish reading Chapter 1.
In particular,
please study sections 1.3-1.6 carefully.
These sections define the axioms of probability,
conditional probability, and other fundamental concepts that
will be extremely important for the rest of the course.
