Homework 4

Date Assigned: Saturday, March 5, 2011
Date Due: Friday, March 11, 2011
  1. Reading: In the Ulaby/Maharbiz text, continue to study Chapter 13, sections 1, 2, and 4, on Magnetically Coupled Circuits. Please read this material before lab and class. The chapter is available as a pdf file on Blackboard under Course Materials, in the folder "Materials from Ulaby & Maharbiz textbook."

  2. Lab: We will have Lab 4 on March 7 & 9.

  3. There are no problems to solve for this week, but I will ask you to write up a summary of your work in Lab 4 and submit it by the end of the day on Friday, March 11 to Judy Harris in the Electrical Engineering Department office in Dana 301.

In the work that you submit, you should include for each case (1) a diagram of the circuit that you constructed, showing the component values and the voltages and currents; (2) your measured values of voltage and/or current; and (3) the computations that you performed. Your work will be evaluated based on the correctness of the approach rather than the accuracy of the results.

  4. Our plan is to study transformers in lab and class during the week of March 7, then some problems from Chapter 13 will be due after the break on Thursday, March 24. We will move on to other topics during the week of March 28.
Thank you.
