ELEC 226, Spring 2010
Prof. Rich Kozick

Homework 12

Date Assigned: Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Date Due: Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in class at 8:30 AM for extra credit on your homework grade.
Submission of the homework is optional, but you are responsible for the material in Chapter 8 on the final exam.

  1. Reading: Please continue to study Chapter 8, all sections.

Also, please review Chapter 12 on Laplace transforms. Most of this material should be familiar to you from MATH 212, but pay particular attention to the definition of poles and zeros in Section 12.8. You will use these concepts in future courses (ELEC 320, 350, 351, 480, ...).

Please study Chapter 13 on circuit analysis in the s-domain. The main idea in Chapter 13 is that a circuit can be transformed into the s-domain, and then all of the circuit analysis methods that we studied in Chapters 1-5 can be applied. The s-domain also provides important insights for system analysis and design through the transfer function, poles, and zeros.

You will not be tested on Chapters 12 and 13 (Laplace transform), but you are allowed to solve (or check) any problem on the final exam using Laplace transforms, if you would like.

  2. Please solve the following problems for class on May 4. You can solve all of the problems (including Chapter 8) using Laplace transforms, if you would like.
    Chapter 8: Problems 1, 6, 30, 37, and 45.
Chapter 13: Problems 10 and 17. (Optional - not on final exam.)
Thank you.
