ELEC 225, Fall 2011
Prof. Rich Kozick

Homework 4

Date Assigned: Wednesday, September 14, 2011
Date Due: Wednesday, September 21, 2011

  1. Reading: In the Ulaby/Maharbiz text, please continue to study Chapter 3, Sections 3-1 through 3.6.

  2. We will have Lab 1 on Thursday, Sept. 15 and Lab 2 on Sept. 22. Please bring your textbook, class notes, and breadboard to all lab sessions.

  3. I suggest that you install the Multisim 11 software that came with the textbook on your computer, and run through the examples in Section 2-8. Nothing needs to be submitted, but work through the examples to become familiar with the software. Please note the similarities and differences between Multisim and the PSpice software (by OrCAD) that we use in the lab. (We will simulate the voltage divider circuit in Section 2-8 in Lab 1.)

You may want to become familiar with both versions of PSpice (Multisim and OrCAD). The OrCAD version will be used in lab and in your future courses, while Multisim will be available on your own computer. You will always be free to use either OrCAD or Multisim for assignments in this course.

  4. If you have not done so, please complete the survey on Moodle titled "Background in matrix math and solving simultaneous equations" by the end of the day on Sept. 14.

  5. Please see the materials on Moodle for circuit analysis and solving linear simultaneous equations with TI-83/84 and TI-89 calculators.

  6. Please solve the following problems in Chapter 3 of the textbook and submit solutions in class on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
    Problems 2, 15, 17, and 20 using the node-voltage method.
    Problems 22, 28, and 35 using the mesh-current method.
Problem 40 using either node-voltage or mesh-current analysis.
Thank you.
