ELEC 225, Fall 2009
Prof. Rich Kozick

Homework 7

Date Assigned: Wednesday, October 7, 2009
Date Due: Monday, October 19 and Monday, October 26 Wednesday, October 28, 2009

  1. Reading: In the Nilsson/Riedel text, please continue to study all of Chapter 4. For the week of October 19, please review your notes on op amps from ELEC 120 and begin reading Chapter 5, Sections 5.1-5.3.

  2. Your reports for Lab 3 are due on Friday, October 9, as scheduled.

  3. Lab 4 will be on October 15 for all students (with no labs on October 8 and 22).
Note about PSpice for the circuit in Lab 4:
We loaded the wrong library during lab. We should have loaded the bipolar.olb that is in the pspice library folder. (The transistor.olb is located one directory above the pspice folder.) Then the proper device is the Q2N3904 in the bipolar.olb library.

  4. Schedule change: I will be out of town on Oct. 21-22, so we will not have class on Oct. 21. This class will be made up on Friday, Nov. 13 when Exam 2 is given, and then we will have class on Monday, Nov. 16. The syllabus has been updated to reflect this change.

  5. Please solve the following problems in Chapter 4 and submit solutions on Monday, October 19. (Homework 7a)
    Mesh-current method: 31(a), 38, 44, 45, 47.
    Node-voltage or mesh-current: 51(a), 56, 58(a).
    Source transformation: 59, 60, 62.

You should follow the step-by-step instructions for the mesh-current method for the problems involving this technique.

  6. Please solve the following problems in Chapter 4 and submit solutions in class on Monday, October 26 Wednesday, October 28, 2009. (Homework 7b)
(Please attempt all problems by Oct. 26 in case you have questions.)
    Chapter 4:
    • Thevenin equivalent: 64, 68, 71, 75, 78.
    • Power transfer: 79, 88, 90.
    • Superposition: 94, 95.

Please recall the notes on methods for finding Thevenin model.

  7. Please look ahead to Homework 8 for op amp problems that you can solve as you study Chapter 5.
Thank you.
