ELEC 225, Fall 2009
Prof. Rich Kozick

Homework 12

Date Assigned: Monday, November 30, 2009
Date Due: Monday, December 7, 2009

  1. Reading: In the Nilsson/Riedel text, please continue to study Chapter 9, Sections 9.1 through 9.9 and 9.12. Recall that Appendix B contains a review of complex numbers. We will begin ELEC 226 with a review of Chapter 9 and then study Sections 9.10 and 9.11 on transformers.

  2. We will perform Lab 7 on December 3, beginning at 8:10 AM. All students will attend on December 3.

  3. Please solve the following problems in Chapter 9 and submit solutions on December 7:
    Chapter 9: Problems 15, 25, 28, 29 (straightforward applications of series/parallel impedances, Ohm's law, KVL, KCL);
    45, 56, 61, and 62 (node-voltage, mesh-current, voltage divider).

    Hint for 9.45: Find Zab by applying a sinusoidal test voltage source vT(t) = cos ( 1.6 x 106 t ) across a-b, and compute the current flowing through the test source.

    The homework will be graded so that full credit is equivalent to solving six of the eight problems correctly, with extra credit for the other problems. However, you are responsible to understand how to solve all of the problems.

  4. An optional session for help with using your calculator to perform complex number computations will be held as follows:
    Tuesday, Dec. 1, 7-8 PM in Dana 305.

  5. The final exam for ELEC 225 will be on Thursday, Dec. 17 from 8:00 - 11:00 AM in the classroom that we meet for lectures, BRKI 066.

    More details about the final exam will be discussed in class on December 7. The exam will be cumulative, open-book and open-notes, and you should bring a calculator.

    The complete final exam schedule is at http://www.bucknell.edu/x45275.xml

Thank you.
